When we share images, send emails, chat with AI or pay our taxes online we are using the cloud.

What we call “the cloud” is far from a fluffy, placeless mist. It emerges from physical data centres, and their relations to energy, people and places. Data centres are increasing in Sweden due to cheap land, cheap low carbon electricity, a cool climate and good internet connectivity. As the cloud expands it creates conflicts and transforms landscapes. As part of our research project we want to invite the public to explore a small part of the digital cloud, into a data centre and out into the landscapes that power them.

The exhibition is produced by Flora Mary Bartlett and Julia Velkova featuring work by the research team and three pop-up books produced in collaboration with artist Lena Ignestam.

Where is the Cloud? is open until the 31st August 2025 at The Museum of Work, Norrköping and can be found on floor 5 as part of DIGITOPIA. Welcome!
