PhD student in Scientific Visualization
Back to available jobsWe are looking for a PhD student in Scientific Visualization in the scientific visualization group at the division of media and information technologies based at the Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping.
Your work assignments
This position is motivated by the need for reliable visualization and data analysis methods that support understanding of the increasing amount of scientific data, e.g. from image acquisition modalities or scientific simulations. Efficient algorithms are at the core of most of these data analysis and visualization applications. The focus of this Ph.D. will be developing efficient and reliable algorithms that arise in the context of topological data analysis and rendering for the visualization of large amounts of data. Close cooperation with other visualization projects in various application areas is expected.
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have graduated at a Master’s level in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related subject or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in the respective area. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
You should have excellent programming skills, preferably C++, and good knowledge of graphics programming. Furthermore you should also enjoy solving algorithmic challenges. The position also requires fluency in spoken and written English.
Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: experiences in applied visualization, topological data analysis, and computer graphics.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Your workplace
You will belong to The scientific visualization group that is a part of Media and Information Technology and The Department of Science and Technology at Linköping University. The scientific visualization group is focused on research ranging from basic research questions in scientific visualization, with a focus on topological data analysis, to a wide range of application driven questions. A primary interest is developing reliable methods based on rigid mathematical foundations targeting visualization needs from specific applications.
The employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at Doctoral studies at Linköping University
The employment has a duration of normally four years’ full-time equivalent. Extension of employment up to five years is based on the degree of teaching and institutional assignment.
