You are coming on exchange to Linköping University (LiU)! What happens now? Well, let the fun and learning begin as we welcome you to our campuses in East Sweden. Welcome to LiU!

Arrival period

LiU welcomes new exchange students at the beginning of each semester with a welcome period full of information and social activities. We want you to get the best possible start for your stay in our part of Sweden and to meet new friends right away. Try to arrive before your studies start to make the most of the welcome period.

It is strongly recommended all students arrive on one of LiU’s official Arrival Days so the International Office can welcome you. On our Arrival Days we have extended opening hours from 11.00 – 20.00 and you will receive a free shuttle service from Linköping City Airport och Linköping train station to Campus Valla. You will also receive free transport from Campus Valla to your accommodation, see information below. If you decide to arrive outside our official Arrival Days International Office will be open Monday to Friday from 09.00 – 16.30.

First stop on campuses

If you will study in Linköping, your first stop should be the International Office (IO) for registration. The IO is located in Studenthuset, Campus Valla. Even if you will attend classes at the University Hospital Campus you should come to Campus Valla for registration.

If you will study in Norrköping, you can visit the IO in Kåkenhus, room 2342 on Campus Norrköping on Fridays from 10.00 – 14.00 (from 6 August onwards). Otherwise, you can also be welcomed and register with LiU's Info Centre which is open weekdays from 08.00 – 16.30.

Norrköping students are also always welcome to access services on Campus Valla in Linköping.

Travel between campuses

There is a free bus service between the three LiU campuses in East Sweden– but you will need your LiU-card to be able to use this service.

If you arrive by public transport to Campus Valla there are several bus stops around campus. All buses stop either at Nobeltorget or Mäster Mattias Väg. Keys for LiU accommodation

Students studying in Linköping, who have received accommodation via LiU, can pick up the keys at Info Centre on Campus Valla. Info Centre's opening hours are 08.00 – 16.30 (during Arrival Days until 20.00). If you arrive outside office hours, you will have to arrange for accommodation at a hotel or youth hostel for the first night/nights. If you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday you cannot pick up your key until Monday morning.

Students studying in Norrköping will receive detailed information about key pick up via email before arrival.

Digital information and welcome package

LiU wants to give you an official welcome as a student and have put together a programme aimed at making your transition here as smooth and informative as possible. Remember to check the information about your when your courses start.

Before you arrive we would like you to take part of a digital welcome package with information related to your studies and also to staying in Sweden. You will find information about e.g the University Library, banking, insurance and much more. This package will contain important practical information for your studies.

A digital welcome broadcast for international  students

Under usual circumstances LiU would welcome international students in a more personal manner. However, the past year has been all but usual and therefore you will be invited to look at the live welcome broadcast we have planned for you. You will receive an official welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, a much appreciated talk about Sweden and the Swedes and also a few tips from current international students. LiU exchange student accommodation

If you are an international exchange student and have accommodation arranged through LiU you are probably curious to know what it looks like and how all practicalities surrounding your accommodation work. This film will guide you through various aspects of student accommodation offered to you as an international exchange student.

*Please note: Only international exchange students are offered accommodation through LiU. If you have been admitted to one of LiU's international degree programmes, you have to search for accommodation yourself.
