Arrival period

Linköping University (LiU) welcomes new exchange students at the beginning of each semester with a welcome period full of information and social activities. We want you to get the best possible start for your stay in our part of Sweden and to meet new friends right away. Try to arrive before your studies start to make the most of the welcome period.

Arrival days

It is strongly recommended that all students arrive on one of LiU’s official Arrival Days so that our International Student Reception team can welcome you. On these Arrival Days, you will receive free transport from a LiU campus to your accommodation. 

Arrival Days: Spring semester 2020

7 January: Recommended arrival day for students studying the intensive Swedish course and students studying at the Faculty of Medicine and health.

14-15 January: Recommended arrival days for all other students.

When you arrive on campus

First stop on campus

If you will study in Linköping, your first stop should be the International Office (IO) for registration. The IO is located in Studenthuset on Campus Valla. Even if you will attend classes at the University Hospital Campus you should come to Campus Valla for registration.

If you will study in Norrköping, you can visit the IO in Kåkenhus, room 2342 on Campus Norrköping on Fridays from 10.00 – 14.00. Otherwise you can also be welcomed and register with LiU's Info Centre which is open weekdays from 08.00 – 16.30. Norrköping students are also always welcome to access services on Campus Valla in Linköping.

Travel between campuses

There is a free bus service between the three LiU campuses in East Sweden– but you will need your LiU ID card for the trip to be free.

Take a look at our maps web page for more information. If you arrive via bus to Campus Valla there are several stops around campus. All buses stop either at Nobeltorget or Mäster Mattias Väg. Click on the links to get directions to Studenthuset from these bus stations.

Keys for accommodation organised by LiU

Students studying in Linköping who have received accommodation via LiU will have to pick up the keys for your room from Info Centre in Student Building on Campus Valla. Info Centre at Campus Valla has the same opening hours as International Office during the arrival period. If you arrive outside office hours, you will have to arrange for accommodation at a hotel or youth hostel for the first night.

Students studying in Norrköping will receive detailed information about key pick up via email before arrival.

Orientation Program

LiU officially welcomes all exchange students with our Orientation Program, on our foundation campus – Campus Valla. During Orientation Program, you will get important study related information as well as practical information that will help you get settled in East Sweden and finding your way around LiU. You will meet the International Coordinators from the IO and your Faculty Coordinators, as well as representatives from student associations, who will introduce you to student life and social activities at LiU.

Orientation Program for spring semester 2020

10 January: For students studying at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
16-17 January:For all other students.

 

Welcome Fair

Your Orientation Program will lead into our Welcome Fair, where all new international students are invited to get to know the support and services LiU offers, such as the Library, Student Health Services etc. You will also meet representatives from some of the student association and the student unions.

There will also be companies and organisations of interest to new students represented at the fair. Welcome fair is very social and festive, with time to mingle and to try Swedish "fika" (the Swedish tradition of having coffee/tea and snack break). There will also be a quiz where you can win prizes.

Social Activities

The IO organises social activities together with the student associations ESN Linköping and ISA Linköping. More information can be found on the Welcome activities’ web page (linked to in the Get Started section).
