Arrival period

LiU welcomes new exchange students at the beginning of each semester with a welcome period full of information and social activities. We want you to get the best possible start for your stay in our part of Sweden and to meet new friends right away. Try to arrive before your studies start to make the most of the welcome period.

Arrival Days

LiU recommends students to arrive on one of the official Arrival Days.

On Arrival Days LiU has extended opening hours from 11.00 – 20.00 and you will receive a free shuttle service from Linköping City Airport and Linköping train station to Campus Valla. You will also receive free transport from Campus Valla to your accommodation, the schedule will be published later. If you decide to arrive outside the official Arrival Days, the International Office will be open Monday to Friday from 09.00 – 16.00.

Campus Norrköping opening hours during August 2024:

  • 14 August between 09:00 – 16:00
  • 22 August between 09:00 – 16:00
  • 26 August between 09:00 – 16:00

When you arrive on campus

Useful information for when you arrive.

First stop on campuses

If you will study in Linköping, your first stop should be the International Office (IO) for registration. The IO is located in Studenthuset, Campus Valla. Even if you will attend classes at the University Hospital Campus you should come to Campus Valla for registration.

If you will study in Norrköping, you can announce your arrival at the Info Centre in Kåkenhus at Campus Norrköping which is open on weekdays from 09.00 – 16.00.

Norrköping students are also always welcome to access services on Campus Valla in Linköping.

Travel between campuses

There is a free bus service between the three LiU campuses in East Sweden – but you will need your LiU card to use this service.

If you arrive by public transport to Campus Valla there are several bus stops around campus. All buses stop either at Nobeltorget or Mäster Mattias Väg. Keys for LiU accommodation

Students studying in Linköping, who have received accommodation via LiU, can pick up the keys at Info Centre on Campus Valla. Info Centre's opening hours are 09.00 – 16.00 (during Arrival Days until 20.00). If you arrive outside office hours, you will have to arrange for accommodation at a hotel or youth hostel for the first night/nights. If you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday you cannot pick up your key until Monday morning.

Students studying in Norrköping will receive detailed information about key pick up via email before arrival.

Digital information and welcome package

LiU wants to give you an official welcome as a student and have put together a programme aimed at making your transition here as smooth and informative as possible.

Before you arrive we would like you to take part in a digital welcome package with information related to your studies and also to stay in Sweden. You will find information about e.g the University Library, banking, insurance and much more. This package will contain important practical information for your studies.
