What happens now? Well, let the fun and learning begin!
Welcome to Linköping University!
Linköping University (LiU) welcomes new international students at the beginning of each semester with a welcome period full of information and social activities. We want you to get the best possible start for your stay in Sweden and to meet new friends right away. Try to arrive before your studies start to make the most of this welcome period.
Please note that some events are just for master’s degree students, others are just for exchange students (regardless of study level) and other events are for all international students. Please check the details to find out which activity is meant for you.
It is strongly recommended that all students arrive on one of LiU’s Arrival Days.* On the Arrival Days, you will receive free transport from LiU to your accommodation.
Recommended Arrival Dates: Spring semester 2018
8 January (for students taking the intensive Swedish language course)
11 January (for students of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences)
17 January (students of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Educational Sciences)
If you will study in Linköping your first stop should be to the International Office (IO) in Zenit building on Campus Valla (even if you will attend classes at the University Hospital Campus). You will get a welcome package and other important information at the IO. On Arrival Days the IO will be open 11:00 till 20:00.
If you will be a student in Norrköping make sure to stop by IO in Kåkenhus, room 2342, or the Student Services Desk as soon as possible after your arrival to receive your welcome pack. Norrköping students are always welcome at the IO on Campus Valla too (there is a free bus service between the three LiU campuses– but you will need your LiU ID card for the trip to be free).
All students who have received accommodation via LiU, will have to pick up the keys for your room at the IO at Zenit building on Campus Valla. If you arrive outside office hours, you will have to arrange for accommodation at a hotel or youth hostel for the first night. If your accommodation is in Norrköping detailed information about key pick up is sent by email.
*If you arrive outside of the official Arrival Days the IO office on Campus Valla is also open every weekday 09:00-16:30 over the month of January.
Information Days for master’s students
Information Days for new master’s students are held at the beginning of every academic year.* Information Days are intended to welcome you to LiU and provide master’s students with practical information about studies and the facilities at LiU.
You only need to attend the Information Days for your faculty. Each faculty has specific information about your Information Day, welcome fair and roll call for your programme. You can find out which faculty your programme belongs to and more on the Information Day's for master's students web page.
*Master’s programmes at LiU start in August/September in the autumn semester (Aug-Jan). There are no degree programmes that begin in the Spring semester.
Roll-call for master’s students
When you start a new master’s prgramme at Linköping University you must also attend a compulsory roll call. Dates for these are available on the faculty pages. If you are unable to attend, you must inform your Faculty coordinator in advance - otherwise you will lose your place on your programme.
Orientation Days for exchange students
LiU welcomes exchange students with our official Orientation Days. During these Orientation Days you will get important study related information as well as practical information that will help you get settled in Linköping and facilitate finding your way around LiU. You will meet the International coordinators from IO and your Faculty coordinators, as well as representatives from the student associations, who will introduce you to student life and social activities.
Orientation Days for spring semester 2018:
12 January (for students of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences)
18-19 January (for students of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Educational Sciences)
At our Welcome Fair all new international students will get to know the support and services LiU offers, such as the Library, Student Health Services and Career Services. You will also meet representatives from some of the student associations, the student unions and representatives from the Faculties.
You can ask questions to the local Police and find out what there is to do in Linköping and surrounding areas from the company who runVisit Linköping. Studentbostäder will also be present and inform about what accommodation services they offer students. There will be time to mingle and to try Swedish "fika" (the Swedish tradition of having coffee/tea and cake break) - and take part in our quiz.
The Welcome Fair for spring semester is held on 19 January 14:00-16:00.
