Department of Biomedical Engineering (IMT) is celebrating 50 years

A milestone is a significant event in a project. April 19 2023 we celebrated the milestone of the Department of Biomedical Engineering (IMT) turning 50 years in education, research and collaboration.

To celebrate this milestone, we invited those who have contributed to the department achieving this respectable age, but also everyone else curious about our department and its contribution to the field of biomedical engineering.

The focus of the celebration was IMT's journey through five decades with the perspective - people whom met and meant a lot to the development of a department and a field.

Program for IMT 50 years

Program

IMT 50 years took place from lunch to evening on April 19, the day before BME@LiU 2023. The celebration mainly took place in connection with IMT's premises on campus US.

Digital twins to be tested in health care environments – LiU leads the EU project

Digital twins will now be tested in real health care environments, in an EU-financed project. The idea is that having a digital copy will make you follow advice from the health care better.

Reducing healthcare queues after the pandemic

At the end of September, the ASSIST project received 9 million sek in funding. The hope is that their research on automated analysis of brain images will be able to free up time for healthcare professionals.

Bioengineered cornea can restore sight to the blind and visually impaired

LiU-researchers have developed an implant made of collagen protein from pig’s skin, which resembles the human cornea. In a pilot study, the implant restored vision to 20 people with diseased corneas.
