MAMA Research Hub (Multidisciplinary Approaches to Maternity Advancement) is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to advancing individualized, equitable, and evidence-based maternal maternity care and postpartum care through research, education, and clinical collaboration.

Sweden is internationally praised for strong outcomes in maternal and infant outcomes. Yet significant and unacceptable inequities persist. Women’s access to evidence-based and respectful care continues to vary widely depending on region, socioeconomic position, and country of birth. Antenatal care largely follows a standardised programme intended to fit everyone; childbirth care shows unwarranted variations in intervention rates; and postpartum care— the weakest link—faces substantial shortcomings in both short- and long term follow-up and prevention. These inequities have been acknowledged for decades, and transformative change is now urgently needed.

The MAMA Research Hub aims to enable this change. By bringing together leading expertise in obstetrics, reproductive health, nutrition, public health, precision medicine, cardiology, general practice, implementation science, digital health, and gender studies, MAMA Research Hub works to develop maternal healthcare that is equitable, individualized, and sustainable throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Strong partnerships with healthcare providers, policymakers, and women ensure research is embedded in practice and driven by real-world needs.
