Social Psychology at the Division of Psychology

People on a beach.

Social psychology deals with social interaction and how people are affected by different social contexts. This can often be based on an awareness of, or identification with, different social groups. When we identify with, ore are involved with, different social groups, our thoughts, emotions and behaviour can be affected by other people.

There is a research network at the Division of Psychology at the IBL with researchers and research groups with a common interest in social psychology. Overall, social psychology research could be described as psychological studies of various forms of social relationships and social interactions. The areas of social psychology in focus in the network can broadly be described as group processes, intergroup behaviour, social identity, collective processes, discursive psychology, gender psychology, experimental social psychology, and work and organizational psychology.

In the network, collaboration takes place in different constellations in research and education. There is also widespread collaboration with other researchers within the university and at other universities in Sweden and internationally. The network members are involved in teaching in several education programmes and courses at Linköping University, e.g. The Psychologist programme, the HR programme and the Cognitive Science programme, as well as independent courses in psychology. We are also involved in courses in teaching for higher education, and courses at postgraduate level.
