Summary

On November 14, LINK-SIC concluded the efforts, experiences and outcomes of the work performed within the context of LINK-SIC as a competence center through the arrangement of the final version of its annual workshop. The ongoing phase of LINK-SIC, which is now coming to an end, started in 2017, but LINK-SIC has a longer history and dates back to 2007.

Therefore, the wider purpose of this final workshop was to summarize the 16 years of LINK-SIC, where the first ten years had the format of an Industry Excellence Center and the last six years as a Competence Center, both supported by Vinnova.

The program contained presentations by current as well as former PhD students, reflections by the chairpersons of the center and feedback from some of the participating companies. The overall conclusion was that LINK-SIC has been very successful in terms of both PhD and Licentiate degrees, publications of high scientific quality, and results of great industrial relevance and value for the participating companies.

Gunnar Holmberg, Saab Aeronautics: ”LINK-SIC has been a great center to perform long-term and close collaboration between industry and academia."

Shiva Sander-Tavallaey, ABB: “With its interdisciplinary approach, LINK-SIC quickly managed to the gap between theory and practice, linking industry and academia in a unique way.”

The strategies of LINK-SIC facilitating a long-term, mutual collaboration between academia and industry have also laid a foundation for future collaborations, exemplified, and realized through the formation of a new competence center hosted by LiU, SEDDIT, financed by Vinnova, which will start its journey 1 January 2024.
