A man
Robert Mare, Professor in sociology

Rob was a tremendous scholar, a dedicated, compassionate mentor, and a friend to many at the Institute. Rob made critical advances in the analysis of social stratification, assortative mating, and segregation. His contributions extend beyond his publication record to the numerous young scholars whom he trained, and who continue to push the boundaries of sociological and demographic research. We will miss him dearly and wish he could have had more time to inspire us and to share his insights and wisdom. Donations in his honor can be made to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. More information about his career and scholarship is available from UCLA.
