This year’s annual Academic Celebration at Linköping University, on 26–27 May, will have a new feature. As the very first Academic Ceremony in Linköping took place in 1973, LiU will now, for the first time, be able to award the title of jubilee doctor to those who received their doctor’s degree 50 years earlier.

As usual, the Academic Celebration will begin with lectures (in Swedish) by this year’s honorary doctors. Lennart Nordenfelt is senior professor in Theory and Ethics of Health Care at Marie Cederschiöld University College. His lecture is titled “On human dignity”. Charlotta Sund, president and CEO of Tekniska verken in Linköping, will talk about the importance of infrastructure in enabling a global resource-efficient society. Their lectures will be held on 26 May, and will, like all programme events, be open to the public and free of charge.

The celebration continues on the evening of 26 May, with the Academic Gala Concert at Linköping Konsert & Kongress. In this year’s Academic Gala Concert, poetry meets the creative power and musical expression of pianist and composer Elise Einarsdotter. The title, "Secrets along the way…”, comes from Tomas Tranströmer’s poem by the same name. Linköping University Chamber Choir, one of LiU’s choirs, will join singer Katarina Henryson and musicians Elise Einarsdotter, Olle Steinholtz and Svante Henryson in a musical celebration under the direction of director musices Christina Hörnell.
