Postdoc

My research is centered around how the relationship between humans and their surroundings is depicted in literary fiction, especially in relation to contemporary environmental problems and risks.

My research interests include eco-/geocritical and postcolonial perspectives, gender studies, speculative fiction, cli-fi and genre studies. My material consists primarily of Nordic literature.

In my doctoral dissertation Hundraårsflöden: översvämningsskildringar i svensk samtidsprosa (Hundred-year floods: depictions of floods in contemporary Swedish fiction, 2023) I examine flood depictions in Swedish novels published during the 2010s. The study applies an ecocritical perspective and explores the ways in which ideas around water, time, space and place characterized the narratives in four different depictions of flooding.

My postdoctoral project ”Radioaktiva rum: kärnkraft, motstånd och spatialitet i svensk skönlitteratur 1974–2022” concerns the depiction of nuclear power plants and radioactivity in contemporary Swedish poetry and prose. The study is based in an ecocritical spatial perspective and focuses on how geographical and spatial relationships are constructed and renegotiated in relation to the nuclear power plant as place in fiction.

In addition to my research I have also taught courses on ecocriticism, postcolonial criticism, children’s and young adult literature, as well as creative writing.
