WELCOME TO OUR WRITING COURSE!
Rhetoric is the strategy of communicating effectively and persuasively. This course centers around the basic principles of rhetorical theory with focus on non-fictional writing. The course consists of both practical and theoretical elements. As a student you are offered lectures and workshops on rhetoric and various text types. The main focus of the course, however, is your own work. In the course you are expected to write five texts in different genres in which you implement rhetorical structures and purposeful use of language.
A crucial part of the writing process is to revise the text until you’re proud to submit it. That is why this course also treats the basic strategies concerning peer review. You will participate in seminars where you read other students’ texts and give and receive constructive feedback before handing in the final draft. After the revision and editing support, you will have time to reread, polish and improve your text, for example with new information or rhetorical devices, before the final deadline. In other words, we believe that students gain a deeper understanding of writing by participating in activities in which they can learn from their peers. As a way of learning from your fellow students, practicing explaining your rhetorical idea and writing strategy, you will also present three of your finished projects orally in seminars.
