I work as an industrial doctoral student at the FLUMES department. In my research, I am developing a completely new type of cylinder where the piston rod can be dynamically connected and disconnected.

Presentation

Hydraulic cylinders have looked almost the same since the Industrial Revolution, with a piston, piston rod, and cylinder. In my research, I am developing a completely new type of cylinder where the piston rod can be dynamically connected and disconnected. This allows the cylinder to work in completely new ways.

One of the variants makes it possible to control several piston rods in a single compact unit, using scheduling routines borrowed from the world of computers. The result is high power density, low energy consumption, and a technology that opens up new design solutions in areas such as aviation, where low weight, volume, and high reliability are desirable.
