Unit of Health Care Analysis

The Unit of Health Care Analysis conducts research in three main areas: health economic assessment, decision making in health care, and priority setting in health care and social services.
This requires systematic assessment of methods and technologies, priority setting processes that provide guidance in allocating limited resources in an equitable and efficient manner, and knowledge about how to make decisions. Research at the Unit of Health Care Analysis (HSA) focuses on these issues. How do new methods work? What are the benefits for patients? Are the costs reasonable in relation to the health benefits? What other aspects should be considered in decisions about priority setting? How should the difficult balance between various interests be handled, and who should be involved? Once decisions are made, how should they be implemented?

The unit consists of two centres; the Centre for Medical Technology Assessment (CMT) and the National Centre for Priority Setting in Health Care. The Centre for Medical Technology Assessment conducts research and provides education about assessing health economics and decision making in health care, while activities at the National Centre for Priority Setting in Health Care focus on transparent prioritisation in health care and social services.
