The starting point for this knowledge field is that preschool, school-age educare and compulsory schooling reflect and contribute to societal change and processes. Education changes society and societal change affects the practice of educational institutions. Societal change is reflected both in the shaping of curricula as well as in everyday practice. The research field of pedagogic practices and societal change gathers researchers exploring the political and structural terms of education in a globalized society where educational institutions are affected both by national steering and global and transnational processes. Within this knowledge field we explore the terms of education, teaching and learning on a micro- meso- and macro level. A central goal is to critically investigate how dominating discourses within educational institutions repeat, entrench, and change, the practice of actors.
We conduct research on
- linguistic, cultural, and religious diversity,
- how changes in national steering documents are interpreted in practice,
- how migration and integration processes are reflected in the everyday life of preschool, school-age educare and school in urban and rural areas,
- the terms of participation,
- children’s rights.
