Presentation

Thomas Ederth är universitetslektor och docent i Molekylär fysik, och bedriver forskning kring ytkemiska problem, företrädesvis grundforskning kring hur biologiskt material (organismer eller biomolekyler) växelverkar med artificiella ytor. Forskningen bygger på en gemensam grund av kunskaper och metoder för analys av ytor och gränsskikt, som tillämpas på projekt inom olika discipliner. Av de metoder som används är vibrationsspektroskopi och neutronreflektometri särskilt betydelsefulla. Aktuella problem berör:

  • Marin påväxt och marin bioadhesion
  • Förhållandet mellan struktur och funktion hos påväxthindrande polymerer
  • Biokompatibilitet och proteinresistens
  • Molekylär växelverkan med lipidbilager
  • Spektroskopi på elektroaktiva polymerer

Bakgrund

Thomas Ederth har en civilingenjörsexamen i Teknisk Fysik och Elektroteknik från Linköpings Tekniska Högskola. Efter ett års forskning vid Ytkemiska Institutet (numera en del av RISE) inledde han forskarstudier under ledning av Prof Per Claesson, vid Institutionen för Fysikalisk kemi, Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, vilket resulterade i en doktorsexamen 1999, för studier av ytkrafter och intermolekylära krafter. Två års postdoktorsvistelse vid universitetet i Oxford ägnades åt utveckling av metoder för att studera skum och skumfilmer med neutronspridningstekniker, under ledning av Dr Robert K Thomas. Efter en tids anställning vid Thin Film Electronics AB, rekryterades han av Prof Bo Liedberg till Linköpings Universitet 2002, till avdelningen för Sensorvetenskap och molekylfysik. Ederth blev docent i Molekylär fysik 2010, och är sedan 2012 chef för avdelningen för Molekylär Fysik.
