RNA in Adaptive Immunity and Autoimmune Disease.

A McIntyre Lab at LiU uses cellular and molecular biology approaches, along with computational analysis, to study the adaptive immune system.

Our aim is to better understand the molecular underpinnings of autoimmune disease. At the same time, we are developing RNA therapeutics as new treatments for autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

Research Projects

  • mRNA regulation in B cells: We are working on understanding how nuclear condensates and cytoplasmic interactions affect the production of inflammatory molecule.
  • Heterogeneity in adaptive immune disease: Using proximity labelling and high-throughput imaging approaches, we are characterizing cellular and autoantibody heterogeneity in patient and donor samples
  • RNA therapeutics for autoimmune disease: We are developing pre-clinical targeted approaches to reduce autoreactivity using short oligonucleotides and optimizing delivery to primary B cells
