Chemistry (KEMI)

At the division of Chemistry, research is being performed in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biotechnology, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry and in physical chemistry, especially computational chemistry.

The research teams consist of about fifteen senior scientists and twenty PhD students, and the research projects are often carried out in cooperation within the department, with other national and international research groups, and with industrial partners.

The broad research activities in chemistry fulfill the aim of the university towards Life Science, a multidisciplinary approach that brings together researchers and projects from chemistry, biology and physics.

Modeling predicted link between gene and rheumatic problems

Study showes that a specific gene influences how cells move, and that it can therefore cause rheumatic diseases. LiU-researchers contributed to this by predicting the gene’s impact on cells. Now there is hope that this could lead to new treatments.

Better digital memories with the help of noble gases

The electronics of the future can be made even smaller and more efficient by getting more memory cells to fit in less space. One way to achieve this is by adding the noble gas xenon when manufacturing digital memories.
